Fall Cocktails…

This morning I woke up to a bit of a “cold front” (it’s currently 8am and 70 degrees) and it’s gotten me in the mood for fall.  Think sweaters, cashmere knit over the knee socks and, of course, cocktails.  All of my favorite fall things…

When we moved from Texas to Louisiana I had thought (hoped) the 9 or 10 bottles of Maker’s we have acquired over the years might stay behind.  They did not.  Our bar cabinets look like a distillery.

So this time last year, to deplete our bourbon stash, I found recipes for homemade cider.  This year it’s a take on a bellini, which is  personal fave of mine.

Last week The Boyfriend and I went to breakfast at Fleur-di-lis Cafe on Chartres and had early morning peach bellinis.  I’ve been googling bellini recipes and came across this recipe on pinterest (obviously).

Cocktail night!

  • puree apple and squeeze of lemon
  • add a drop into a champagne flute, add apple bourbon (I’m using some Maker’s, I have got to get rid of this stuff)
  • top with prosecco

   Voila.  Fall cocktails.

Date Night… Cooking at Home

The Boyfriend & I have both been trying to be a little more healthy since the beginning of the New Year, but every once in a while I crave a good wine & cheese night.

scotch & camembert

After our Paris trip, The Boyfriend has since taken up drinking scotch.  I’m still a little on the fence; it’s some potent stuff so I ended up  switching to a Chilean Cab.  Much more my speed.

So we had cocktails/wine with little basil pesto and camembert crostini on grilled ciabatta.

Delish.

So there ended up being very little ‘health’ involved with our date night, but I figure it’s always more fun that way anyways.  Now back to resolutions.

Oh, and here is my opinion of scotch…

Date Night…50’s Style

I love that black winged eyeliner is big for fall.  This time of year, when the weather starts to cool, I love getting dressed up.  So since The Boyfriend and I had to work all weekend, we decided to have a low key date night.

Time to dress up.

{winged liquid eyeliner & pale pink gloss}

{Hunter Dixon Peppy Coat, vintage dress}

It’s finally cool enough for opaque tights and tall heels, one of my favorite if not absolute favorite looks for the fall season.  So I went with a girlie military coat and a little vintage dress (little because it was accidentally thrown into the laundry pile…).  And I was ready for a date.

Honestly, the coat is my most treasured piece of clothing in my closet.  Well, that and my grandmothers velvet Pucci maxi skirt from the 60’s.  That I’m saving for holiday parties.

Bourbon, bitters and passion fruit purée.  Yum…

Forget work.

Date Night…60’s Inspired

The Boyfriend and I decided to take a break after such a long week and went out for dinner and drinks.

I have been inspired by Marc Jacobs 60’s inspired collection so I went the Edie Sedgwick route for our date.  Short mini-dress, super opaque black tights topped off with dangly tassel earrings.  When I got my dress I immediately had it shortened about a foot (maybe longer, it was knee length) but then someone put it in the dryer and it’s even shorter.

I’m going to start throwing all my dresses in the dryer.  Free alterations…

Date Night…Zoo Beastro

While it was not the best night of my life, it was something to do.  We went to Zoo Beastro last year and had a great time so we decided to give it another go.  Sister Hazel preformed, we had a couple weak drinks and checked out what exhibits they still had open.

I think the flamingos turned out to be the highlight of my evening, they’re always my favorite at the zoo.   For the last several years I have been saying I’m going to be a flamingo for Halloween but usually end up having a glass of wine and am in bed by 9:30.

Maybe this year…

Date Night…Grill Master

Despite being 100 degrees in the Texas heat, The Boyfriend and I decided it was time to grill.  It is Memorial Day after all.  So after grilled rosemary bread and brie, roasted shitake mushrooms, grilled potatoes and asparagus (and steak for the meat eater), we sat in the blazing heat and had a glass of Sancerre.

My mom gave us these amazing little wine glasses from the Modern Art Musuem gift shop.  Perfect for outside use; they’re plastic and have a little thumb indention.  So you really never need to put it down.

Maybe to refill…

Date Night…Mediterranean Style

I love eating outside…

The Boyfriend left work a little early yesterday and the weather was so nice we decided to cook outside.

Pepper encrusted salmon, grilled eggplant topped with feta and spritzed with grilled lemon and charred ciabatta (my personal fave) paired with artichoke hummus.

Oh.  And vino, of course…

Pleasure Doing Business…

{dress, Pleasure Doing Business}

New favorite line.

I have never been a fan of bandage clothing (so not me) but these dresses are amazing.  As usual, I am a fan of the fit and flare.  I have my eye on another cream and pale pink one…

Perfect for date night with The Boyfriend, bourbon cocktails at our favorite bar.
