A Little Edge for Spring ’13…

jewels

I had a ‘Mother/Daughter Day’ shopping jewels for my upcoming Spring/Summer 2013 Collection.   I always like taking her with me; she’s honest.  Sometimes brutally so, which is fortunate (or unfortunate depending on my mood) because it’s so easy to get stuck in a design habit.

It’s nice having a little extra insight.

My style has always been decidedly girlie.  Short dresses, lace, pink~ you name it, it defines my look.  And while this has always been reflected in my jewelry design, I’m aiming to be a little edgier for Spring/Summer 2013.  It’s turning out to be a little harder than I had anticipated; it’s like going against a girlie force of nature.

 The process has been made easier with my finds of gorgeous metal-esque looking pyrite, darker more intense stones and little skull details (albeit in rose gold).  So hopefully this will add a little depth to the collection.

Baby steps.

Then, as our ‘Mother/Daughter Days’ often go, we stopped by a cafe in the design district for some sauvignon blanc and catching up.  Perfect way to end our shopping day…

New York…Oh, to be Inspired

Intermezzo Jan- 2

{Intermezzo- Pier 92}

This trip was exactly what I needed and I didn’t even realize it.

I only had five days after Paris before heading off to NY and, honestly, I really wasn’t looking forward to it.  Thank God I didn’t back out.

{Hunter Dixon~ Summer 2013}

I have been working with some friends of mine on their clothing line, Hunter Dixon, and flew up for the show.  The collection was gorgeous, very classic HD- feminine & flirty, but with an added edge.  Exposed zippers, pinky gold boucle and flouncy tennis dresses made me ready for warmer temps.

And Hunter is going to be on the NBC show Design Star this coming season so I’m looking forward to lots of exciting things coming their way.

Sometimes being in that environment, around so many creative and inspired people, around so many gorgeous prints and designs, is what I need to refuel my own imagination.  After the holidays I was feeling less than inspired, to say the least.  My desire to design and create  and has been refreshed; I feel ready for anything again.

Now to plan my next trip.  Tuscon.  Gem Show, here I come…
