white linen & flowers…

1

Tonight is White Linen Night in the Warehouse District.

You roam, gallery to gallery, dressed in white linen and sip street cocktails.

Normally I’m a fit & flare dress and Marc Jacobs mouse flats kind of girl, but today I’m feeling more bohemian-ish.

And by bohemian, I mean I bought a linen tee-shirt at the Gap (not very bohemian) and am hoping not to pass out of a heat stroke traversing the streets of New Orleans.

To add to my Gap ensemble (why is everything always 40% off?), I created a little delicate flower crown of blushes and pinks.

And I hate keeping cocktails waiting.

Time has kind of flown by, I finally looked up at September is almost over.  Which gives me about a month til we are headed off for a week of Hawaiian sun.

So I’ve been scouring the internets looking for cute swimsuits and found the most adorable one-piece with a mini-tummy cut out by Lolli Swim.

I love bright colors with black & white stripes.  Love the contrast.

Red with b&w always makes me feel like I’m trying to look french, so I opted for royal purple and neon pink.

Because neon pink goes with everything.

tis the season…

saints headband

From here on out my Saturdays are devoted to college football and Sundays are reserved for Saints games.

My go-to Sunday accessory, a Deepa Gurnani headband in the classic black and gold combo.

cosmic kitties…

I joke that I’m a ‘cat lady’ but am growing concerned that little joke may hit a little too close to home.  I might need to edit the number of President Kitty pics I have currently on Instagram.

But regardless of my smooth sailing into ‘cat lady’ status, I’m pretty sure my wardrobe is requiring a pair of ‘pretty kitty’ by Charlotte Olympia from the Kitty & co. collection.

And also a pair of Gemini flats from the Cosmic collection.

My horoscope informed me that starting in August my life will be free of strife.  As wonderful as that sounds, it makes me a smidge nervous regarding my remaining two weeks of July.

I guess I can just slip on a pair of ‘pretty kittys’ and hope for the cosmic best.

A Need of Neons…

zara- neon

{zara ~ neon pink tote, $50}

After going blonde, I tried to minimize my intake of bright colors.  I started to notice I can look a little barbie doll-esque, what with the neon pink dresses and bright sandals.  A look I wouldn’t hesitate to wear with my former brunette locks.

So I decided baby steps might be the right approach.

It started earlier in the year with a pair of bubblegum pink suede wedges.  I live in Texas (us ladies love us some bright colors) so not pairing those with another intensely hued dress has been hard.  Very hard.

But last week I went shopping to relieve a bad mood (probably not the best behavior, but honestly who cares, it was needed) and almost bought a pair of neon pink Charlotte Olympia terry wedges.  Justifying two pair of neon pink wedges is hard.  Again, very hard.

I seriously need someone to monitor my extra-curricular activities.

Anyways, I’m now thinking in the direction of neon purses.  I’ll have to work on reining in my desire to wear with all my other colorful pieces since my end-goal is not to blind people.

And as The Boyfriend informed me when I bought my last little neon pink cross body (forgot about that little gem sitting in my closet never worn…), ‘a little neon goes a long way.’

Well, he’s an attorney not a stylist so he can keep his opinions to himself.

workworkwork…Chicago

chicago

Last time I tried my hand at Chicago, it snowed eight inches the first night I was there.  But my amazing hotel made up for it.

This time, I had the opposite experience.  No snow (didn’t realize that was possible for Chicago) and the saddest hotel in the city.  Apparently just because you are on Michigan Ave, doesn’t mean you should expect quality.

coast-chicago

I was in town for the COAST Show, a Chicago/Miami/NY market, and had the Hunter Bell Fall/Winter 2014 collection with me.  Thank God, all those coats came in handy.

I had walked to a teeny little french wine bar one night for dinner and the waiter made the observation that I must not be from the area.  “You look like you’re wearing three coats and a scarf and it’s only 45 degrees out.”  He laughed, I didn’t.  I was still cold.

Maybe next time, I’ll skip Chicago and go try Miami.  I’ll swap snow for sand and coats for bikinis.

And have a mojito.  (two)

My New Fave Accessory…Flash Tattoos

I love a great tattoo (on someone else).

For me, I need mine a little less permanent.

flash tattoos 2

These gorgeous temporary pieces by Flash Tattoos are my most favoritest accessory I’ve found in a loooong time.  Lasts 4-6 days and you get four sheets of designs for around $20.

flash tatoos

They’re perfect for an upcoming island trip with friends to St. Thomas next month.

Since I’m flying Spirit (after promising myself “never again” twice) I need to pack light.  And being a jewelry designer, that can get impossibly hard.

I think for Mardi Gras I packed 37 bangles and never ended up wearing any; they clashed with my beads.

Flash Tattoo 3So this gives me a little luxe-boho without having to overpack (impossible!).

That means with the extra room I save on jewelry, I can pack extra headbands.
