nailsnailsnails…

Since moving this house, the only nails I have had time to think about are the ones I hammered into the drywall.  And if you knew me before, during my life in fashion, this would seem incredibly out of character for me.

I’ve come to think of my life as ‘Pre-House Margo’ and ‘Post-House Margo.  ‘Pre-House Margo’ was considerably better groomed and wore dresses everyday.  ‘Post-House Margo’ is covered in paint and stain and can’t paint her nails because she took up gardening.  Oh, and wears running clothes everyday.

But, thankfully, I still have stylish friends.

My best friend in LA (that’s the city, not the state…) has started working for one of my favorite nail lines, NCLA.  I wrote this post forever ago about ikat nail stickers.   That was back in my more fashionable days, when I wrote about fashion, beauty and other topics of great importance.  I believe the post I wrote yesterday was about a table I stained.  Sigh.

So in the meantime, I live vicariously through her.  She’s significantly cooler than me.  Although she doesn’t know how to lay tile.  I guess then we contribute to this friendship in different ways.

I think I should take the hint because she’s sent me some NCLA nail stickers and polishes.  Which are amazing, by the way.  My nail polish actually lasts through dunking my hands in buckets of roses all day.

She needs to hit up the archives and find me those ikat stickers from forever ago.  Now that would be a good friend.

mid week pick me up…

After what seems like the longest week ever, and as it stands it’s only mid-afternoon Thursday, I decide to treat myself with beauty products.

gloss and mascara

Nothing like mascara and lip gloss to make Thursday seem more like a Saturday.  And bought myself some flowers.

Oh and I made brownies (they’re gone).

And am having a glass of sauvignon blanc (almost gone but thank God it’s refillable).

dior gloss

My make-up arsenal consists of gloss and mascaras.

This Dior gloss, Creme de Rose, is incredible.  Smells like roses and not like old ladies.  It’s plumping without being sticky.

And everyone always need more mascaras.  My two current favorites are Dior Addict It-Lash and Marc Jacobs Omega.  Layer for almost fake looking length.  I’m southern, I like mascara.  A lot of it.

julepApparently I had decided as early as Monday this was already the longest week of my thirty years because that was when I ordered my present to myself online.

Ten hours and counting til Friday…

My favorite beauty tool, known to woman, is mascara.  I usually have about three or four favorites going around in the mascara rotation at any given time: Estee Lauder Sumptuous Volume, Lancome Hypnose Star and any wand from Maybelline is pretty much amazing.

Recently while perusing Vogue, I saw a picture of the new Lancome Grandiose wand and knew I had to have it.

Once I mastered the wand (which did take a couple tries), it flew to the front of the mascara line.  Super black, gets every lash and makes for some dramatic lashes.

Now I just need to get my hands on the crazy Givenchy Phenomen’Eyes mascara.  Next up on the lashwishlist.

Beauty…Damaged Hair Treatments

Last September, I turned my waist length dark brown hair into shoulder length platinum hair.  The shoulder length part was not by choice, more out of necessity.  I did all this over the course of three weeks, think several 6-8 hour sessions, and my hair was damaged beyond repair and the length had to go.

To say I’m fond of hair products, masks in particular, would be an understatement (similar to my love of mascara, one can never have enough mascara).   When I had long hair, it was a constant struggle to keep it healthy and shiny.  Especially the ends.

Now that I have bleach blonde hair (I loathe that term, sounds like I should be wearing acid wash jeans and a crop top), my constant struggle is just to keep my hair connected to my head.  And for the record, I do like a good crop top so maybe that description isn’t too far off the mark.

I have tried everything under the sun, and after trial and error, here are my two loves:  coconut oil & my Oribe moisture mask.  I have my hair colored at Maison de Cheveux in New Orleans and want to kiss my stylist for suggesting these.

While contemplating the idea to change my hair color, the only testimonials I could find online (I did crazy amounts of research) were mostly stories from high schoolers (honestly the day I start taking advice from high schoolers…) and people who had accidents (i.e.- bleached their hair off).

Best thing in the world I do for my hair is sleeping in a coconut oil mask. The (ever-charming) Boyfriend refers to it as “goo-head” but you would be surprised how easy it is to ignore someone on the pursuit to better hair.

Margo goes Blondo….er.

more blondes

After non-stop traveling the last several weeks, my hair needed a re-do.

I leave tomorrow for Mardi Gras and wanted to make sure my hair was as blonde as it could be.  My track record for catching beads as a brunette is pretty dismal (zero to date), so I’m hoping this will be the catalyst that changes everything.

So almost three hours of Cosmo/Vogue/InStyle reading later…

blonde hair

I’m ready for more travel.

New Orleans here I come.

valentine’s day essentials…

valentines

All I really want for Valentine’s is someone to rub my shoulders and a bottle of wine.

But here are some other gorgeous little necessities for the big day.

DSC_0012

Normally, The Boyfriend and I are rather anti- NYE & Valentine’s Day.  A couple of my least favorite things usually happen on these holidays~ crowds, waiting and prix-fixe menus, just to name a couple.  Especially prix-fixe menus.

Waaay to picky for that nonsense.

But this year, I had a change of heart; cocktails and dinner can’t be too bad.  Although I haven’t tried to make reservations yet, so maybe I’m being a little optimistic.

But my hair will look good while we wait; I’m thinking messy bun.

After an hour or so of cocktails and waiting for a table, “messy” will be inevitable.  I’d rather start with “artfully messy” than end with “cocktail messy.”

Beauty…Serums

DSC_0012

I read about this in Vogue a couple months ago, and after a run in with a too-close inspection under a fluorescent light in my hotel room the other day I realized I needed some help.  I heard beauty oils were the ‘new thing’ so I decided to give one a try.

Online, you’ll find glowing reviews for this serum, and one of the aspects I love about it is how natural it is.  It’s made from ingredients all around the world, including Frankincense and Argan oil.  It smells amazing and makes your skin feel incredible.

Hopefully this will be the pick-me-up I need.  And no more fluorescent lighting.

A Little Afternoon Pick-Me-Up…

Eventhough it’s only Wednesday, it’s been a long week.  And I’m pretty sure by 11am, I’d already met my coffee intake for half the month.

So this afternoon, I decided to treat myself to a little non-caffeine related pick me up.  Or a couple.

{L’Oreal Colour Riche Balm}

I looovvvvveeee buying inexpensive lip gloss, the shinier and sparklier the better.   And why buy one lip gloss (sheer baby pink), when you can buy two (sheer baby pink and a gorgeous glossy nude).

Oh, and some jewels.  Aside from the shiny/sparkly, I’m also a sucker for anything with initials or my zodiac sign.

Now, back to work.

Ha, just kidding.  I’m watching Pretty Little Liars on Netflix.

Beauty…Super Primers

clinique- primers

It’s a safe assumption that I only understand the purpose of about half the makeup I own.  Unfortunately I’m a sucker for pretty packaging, and it has resulted in a lot of unneccesary purchases.

A lot.

clinique super primer

But fortunately this was not one of them.

I don’t wear a lot of makeup, but this is an amazing base for when I wear my CC cream.  It makes makeup glide on and stay all day.  And takes away the sheen from my sunscreen.

I think I’m a beauty product junkie.
